Herbal remedies and supplements have been around for centuries and have recently seen a new ground swell of popularity, along with a healthy dose of skepticism for the medical community. In this article we will briefly look into the phenomenon of herbal remedies and supplements, all the while allowing you to draw your own conclusions as to whether these all natural options are right for you.

The naturopathic creed is to do no harm and that is the primary path that most proven natural medicine tends to travel. This approach to medicine works with a person’s body, allowing the body to make the proper adjustments in order to either fight off an infection, balance hormones, or readjust body chemistry in an effort to cure the condition or ailment from the inside out. This general approach is known as full spectrum approach to natural healing.

But despite mountains of anecdotal evidence, along with a substantial amount of clinical evidence to support their efficacy, there are those who believe that herbal remedies and supplements are an outdated and useless method of treatment.

The argument against this line of thinking is that today we know more about natural remedies than ever before with numerous scientific students isolating the active ingredients and measuring their effectiveness. We know what works and what doesn’t. So today’s herbal medicine is a long shot from those ancient times when anything that grew or crawled was thrown into a pot to make that cure all elixir made famous by the traveling salesman and witch doctors of old. Furthermore, the naturopathic doctors who create the formulas of today are much more skilled at producing remedies that are targeted to specific illnesses, ailments, or conditions.

The disadvantage of herbal remedies and supplements is the speed at which many of them work. While some do work fast (especially the newer liquid formulas) others take time to produce results. For certain illnesses time is not a luxury that can be afforded thus other more conventional options are generally considered to be better overall alternatives, even by naturopathic doctors.

But slow is not always bad, especially when it comes to side effects. Let’s explore an example of this. Cholesterol medications such as statins have been quite popular in recent years. They can reduce problematic LDL cholesterol dramatically in as little as two weeks by interfering with the livers ability to produce cholesterol.

The rapid decline in cholesterol causes a chain reaction in the body when it the drop is too sever e and lasts too long. When this happens cells fail to get the cholesterol they need to survive, producing muscle pain, cramps, and in extreme instances cell death resulting in kidney failure.

On the other hand there are a number of herbal remedies and supplements such as guggul gum extract and phytosterols that work to absorb excess cholesterol in the intestines and produce few if any side effects risks.

This is just one example of which there are many more. In the end it generally comes down to a question of speed of treatment with the risk of side effects or a slower acting longer lasting solution free from side effects.

In conclusion, the choice whether or not to use herbal remedies and supplements is all about personal preference.

Skin tags are extremely common, affecting up to 50% of the population. The cause of these skin irregularities is yet to be determined. Skin Tags are commonly found around creases or folds in the skin but can occur just about anywhere on the body. They often appear as flat or thin cylindrical shaped flesh-like growths protruding from the skin. They can develop in clusters or individually.
Skin tags vary in size and appearance — some are as small as a grain of rice, while others are as large as a walnut! In medical terms they are known as acrochordon or pedunculated papilloma. Skin tags are ugly and may become rather irritant when they appear on obvious parts of our bodies such as arms, faces and places where there is skin friction with our clothing or jewelry. Worse still, for some people, they pop up continuously to alarming numbers.

How to remove skin tags? That’s a question many people are trying to find an answer. Going to the dermatologist can be rather expensive as he or she may need to carry out minor operation to get rid of skin tags. But do you know that there are home remedies to remove skin tags? There are a few different methods you can apply at home to remove skin tags.

Before you start removing skin tags by yourself, you should ensure that it is a skin tag and not anything else. How do you identify it then? Skin tag is a soft skin growth that does not grow huge overnight and is generally smaller than 1.3cm in size. As for appearance, it is actually excess skin and can be flat or rounded and attached to the rest of the skin by a thinner stalk. Normally, its colour is the same as the surrounding skin or has a slight darker pigmentation. Once you are sure it is a skin tag, you may then proceed to remove it.

One method to remove skin tags involves using a couple of things like dental floss or thread, a pair of scissors or nail clippers and peroxide or antibacterial medication. What you do is to tie up the skin tag at the stalk base with the dental floss or thread, and then snip off the skin tag with the pair of scissors or nail clippers. Make sure these tools are sharp and cleaned and sterilized with alcohol if possible. Once the skin tag is removed, apply peroxide or antibacterial medication on the small open wound. This method is simple and not very painful most of the time. You will feel a sting when you are cutting the skin tag off. However, you may realize that it’s not always effective as the skin tag reappears at the same spot.

The second method is a less painful method and results can be seen pretty fast. What you need is some baking soda and castor oil. With these two ingredients, prepare a concoction by mixing the two together thoroughly until they form a gooey paste. Apply at least 3 times every day on the skin tags. The skin tags would dry up and die off in around 2 weeks. This method is simple to remove skin tags; however, the final therapeutic outcome varies from person to person without guarantee.

The third method is taking natural organic medicine. Natural medicines can treat the condition initially. Aside from curing skin tags, these natural essential oils have other benefits in the overall health. Medicinal plants deliver profound results to cure a vast array of ailments; recent scientific studies demonstrate this very fact and show just how powerful they can be. The beauty of these naturally occurring extracts is that they not only deliver incredible results to eradicate specific ailments, but do so without undesired side effects.

CURED reveals the secrets of plant medicine. Plant medicine is a very vast field and new discoveries are constantly coming to light. Our background is in biochemistry specializing in the field of medicinal plants and evidence based natural medicine. This has allowed us to develop specialized and incredibly effective remedies available to health practitioners and the general public with guaranteed results.

CURED’s all natural treatment — SkinTagCure represents a safe and effective alternative. It is a new all natural, certified organic topical treatment that works quickly to eliminate skin tags. Its effectiveness against skin tag is supported by published scientific studies.

Users of SkinTagCure experience rapid elimination of skin tags without scarring, tissue damage, or recurrence. The treatment is painless and delivers profound results in skin tag elimination, returning skin tissue back to the state it was in prior to the onset of the condition. Finally, you can get rid of these irritating and unattractive skin tags with this all natural organic plant medicine.

Today, it is no surprise to see everything labeled as natural or herbal. In just about any store you go in, all you see are millions of all herbal or all natural products including dietary supplements and herbal medicine products. One answer is that it all started when the media began to report widely on how important it is to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. Knowledge of the benefits of herbal medicines and natural tonics goes back to our ancestors thousands of years in the past. All the way back to 2800 B.C., scientists and storytellers have reported on humans experiencing the amazing healing and health benefits of natural herbal remedies.

In fact, herbal medicine has been a big part of human history for the last 5,000 years according to archaeology and written records. All the way up to today, people have used herbal medicine and treatments to aid in a wide variety of ailments to improve their health and well being. Many herbs have a long history of beneficial use and practically guaranteed health benefits. An herb, or botanical, is either a plant or part of a plant (hat is used for its scent, flavor, or therapeutic abilities. Although they are found in natural, herbal products are not guaranteed to be safe or without negative side effects. While they may come from plants, some plants are dangerous and can be damaging or poisonous to your health, instead of restoring it.

Unlike prescription drugs, herbal products are not clinically tested and proven to work for any particular ailment before they are marketed or sold to customers in health food stores like GNC (General Nutrition Center). Also, the active ingredients in many herbal supplements and treatments remain unknown. Some supplements have been found some to contain metals, prescription drugs mixed in without any mention on the label, microorganisms or other substances.

Since most herbal products are not tested and certified by the FDA or other health authority, they may in actual fact cause health problems or complications. All of this is extremely rare as most companies do their own testing, and only use the beneficial types of herbs in their herbal products. If you are pregnant or nursing, then you should take special care about using herbal products, as well as if you are about to have surgery. Some herbal products such as for weight loss or skin care are much less expensive than surgical procedures like liposuction or hiring a dermatologist, respectively. This is one other reason for the massive popularity of herbal treatments. So to always be on the sage side of things, make sure you always check with your healthcare provider before trying any herbal products you have a concern about.

A lot of people today are considering herbal supplements as an alternative to, or in addition to, conventional medicine. Are you one of these people? Or think that you may want to be? If so then read on, we will endeavor to provide at least a few answers to this question that will help you to decide if herbal supplements are for you.

In the past, before antibiotics and pharmaceutical companies, doctors used herbs and other medicines that they mixed themselves in their office. Doctors did pretty much what they do today and more because they were pharmacists/chemists in addition to their normal duties. Herbs were the medicines then and some doctors still prescribe them. Herbs today are classified as supplements and not as drugs.

Today, a lot of our medicines are plant derived. Chemists isolate the components of the herb that have specific medical benefits, then go through the FDA’s testing process before being given the OK to market them. Sometimes they are synthesized from the herb and mixed with other ingredients to make a viable product. Herbal supplements are either a portion of the plant or are ‘whole herb’ meaning that all of the plants components are used. There are literally thousands of herbs and herbal mixtures in today’s health food stores. Herbs and herbal mixtures can be found easily on the internet by using one of the search engines.

So, how does one choose which herbal supplements to take? It depends on why you want to take them. Do you want to take them for vitamin and mineral supplementation? Or do you want to take a specific herb for a condition or symptom? These things you must decide for yourself and to do the necessary research. There is an herb or herbal mixture for just about any condition or symptom. Much of this information can be found in early medical books and online.

Herbal supplements should be researched for any side effects or toxic component before taking. What could be the effects of mixing them with other medications or vitamin/mineral supplements that you may be taking. These are some of the questions that should be answered before taking any supplement. Check with your doctor first before taking any supplements of any kind.

A popular saying about Chinese herbal medicine answered the question “What to Expect from a Doctor of Chinese Medicine” with “Above all else, do no harm”. Among all the medical systems of the world, Chinese herbal medicine is the most highly developed. Over thousands of years, the experience of countless administrators of the system ensured its popularity.

Chinese herbal medicine consists of animal, mineral materials and plant species. They are prescribed in the form of formulae – a combination of herbs – than individually. The combination of herbs enhances the medicinal effects. Unwanted side effects are also neutralized by combining different herbs. The formulae in a Chinese herbal medicine consist of herbs of principal, assisting and directional functions which are combined with herbs to reduce the side effects and induce the digestion of the principal herb.

Tang (decoctions of the boiled teas), San (milled powders), Pign (pills), Wan (tablets) are some of the methods of ingestion of the Chinese herbal medicines. Poultices, soaks, plasters, washes, ointments and fumigants contain the herb for an effective cure.

The legends of Chinese herbal medicines are its flavour and potent odors. To get its fullest experience, boil the herbs and drink the “tea”. According to the combination of the formulae, the boiling time of herb will vary. While the roots of herbs take nearly 20 to 40 minutes of boiling to get its essence, other parts such as leaves and flowers yield medicines within ten to twenty minutes of boiling.

The pills were invented by the Chinese. As it is done today, the doctors of China were prescribing pills right from the twelfth century. The pills are prepared from herbs milled and bound with honey, juice of ginger and water or some other related herbal substance. Extracting the constituents of the herbs can be achieved by using alcohol, glycerin, vinegar or water.

Extracts from herbs should be drunk at room temperature since liquids, which are cold, do not get digested easily. Slowly sip the hot liquid even though it tastes terrible. To overcome the aftertaste, put a drop of lemon juice on the tip of the tongue after swallowing the herbal extract. In order to obtain best results, consume the herbal extract on an empty stomach. Wait for 30 minutes after drinking a herbal extract to eat food or any other additional medicines.

Tinctures of Chinese herbal medicines should be diluted with water in small quantities so that the caustic effect of the solvent is reduced. The four examinations involved prior to prescribing a suitable formula are listening, smelling, tasting, and touching. After these processes, the doctor will decide the best course of action to treat the malady suffered by the patient.

Herbs have been used for centuries to treat various conditions, including anxiety and panic attacks. Today many anxiety medications often contain herbal components. That’s because these anxiety herbs have great abilities to enhance our body’s response to stress and to promote relaxation and calm.
One of the main benefits to herbal treatments for anxiety is the cost. Herbal treatments are almost always much less expensive than prescription drugs. But the benefits don’t end there. The best herbs for anxiety will also have fewer and less severe side effects as well, making them safer to use. For instance, they’re nonaddictive.

That’s not to say there are no side effects. Every chemical action must also have a reaction (side effect) and every body reacts in its own way to herbs and other supplements. So you must be careful with any supplement you take. That’s why I recommend that you not take any herbal remedy without first running it by your doctor or pharmacist. Now let’s talk about the anxiety herbs themselves.

Valerian: Valerian is a powerful anxiety herb. You can use it in the daytime to manage your stress and anxiety. You can also use it at nighttime to calm you down after a long day. And to help you get a restful, full night’s sleep.

Kava: Kava was first used in the South Pacific islands where it grows easily and abundantly. There it was cultivated into a relaxing beverage used in nearly every household. From there, it made its way to Europe and the West where it is used as an effective treatment for anxiety and insomnia.

St. John’s Wort: St. John’s Wort is a medicinal herb that dates back over 2000 years to the days of Hippocrates. He used it to first treat depression but in today’s world, it has been found to be an effective treatment against the effects of moderate levels of anxiety. It comes with certain side effects though as it may increase your sensitivity to sunlight and also interfere with the effectiveness of other drugs you may be taking.

Passion Flower: Passion Flower is a plant native to the Southeastern United States, parts of Argentina, and Brazil. It has been typically used as both an aid to digestion and as a natural tranquilizer. A small dose taken just before bedtime has been known to promote a restful sleep.

Last Word: All of these herbs are useful in the treatment of anxiety disorders and you can find them in most health food stores. They come in different forms, capsules, liquid extracts, and teas. And while they all produce much the same effects generally, you may find that they each work a little differently on you. Which one works best will probably take a little trial and error.

Capsules are the easiest to take while the extracts may be the most flexible; you can add them to just about any of your meals or beverages. Teas can be very flavorful and can give you more enjoyment. But whatever you choose, you’ll be getting some serious help from these anxiety herbs, help that can ease your anxiety and stress.

You are often worried about things which are not important. Then you can not forget valuable herb resource for your anxiety condition, namely valerian, kava, St. John’s Wort, passion flower, capsules, teas, liquid extracts. Tell others who also get anxiety like you this therapy.

It uses the extracts and essences of flora and fauna within formulas taken as teas, tinctures or capsules.

These formulas often contain up to 15 different herbs. But in a world concerned with ecological sustainability and ethical practices, how can we be sure the products we take are safe and not damaging the environment or wiping out endangered plants and animals?

As western societies have become switched on to the benefits to be had from Chinese Herbal Medicine, the demand for the products has increased. While the Far East looks to supply that demand, there must also be a question of how sustainable that supply is and if strict guidelines on extraction and safety are in place. Although the majority of Chinese medicines do not contain products from endangered species (plant or animal), some have been known to include products derived from tigers, elephants and bears. There are a number of societies around the world that monitor the trade and have set down codes for suppliers to abide by.

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species was set up to make it illegal for anyone to buy or sell a product that derives from an animal or plant on the list of critically endangered species. Operation Charm is a joint initiative set up to combat this illegal trade in London and since its launch in 1995 the Metropolitan Police have seized over 30,000 items. Its dedicated Wildlife Crime Unit continues to make arrests and helps prosecute traders across the capital.

Chinese herbal products fall into categories of medicine, food and cosmetics. In the UK, these are monitored and enforced by trading standards agencies where legal requirements are in place to govern their use. Herbal formulas are seen as medicines and therefore must have product licences to be marketed and be safe and labelled in accordance with the Medicines Act of 1968. Some formulas that are exempt from this fall into the ‘unlicensed herbal medicine’ category but still should be safe and labelled correctly.

Anything that is not taken as a medicine is classed as food, a food supplement or drink and this will include things like herbal teas. These foods must meet strict guidelines as set out by the Food Safety Act that includes and governs things such as labelling, ingredients and quality. There should also be no false descriptions or misleading claims for those foods that are called ‘health foods’.

Cosmetics include any product that comes into direct contact with the skin, hair, nails, teeth, lips or genitals and whose purpose is to help protect, clean, perfume or correct. Some cosmetics are exempt from licensing however medicines and cosmetic products generally are licensed and are enforced by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

A way to ensure products you buy from a Chinese Herbal Medicine shop be safe and ethical, you should use a local practitioner or outlet that obeys codes and ethics. Then, the practitioner or outlet is using a supplier who has the necessary license to sell Chinese Herbal products.

Since the old days herbal medicine has been used as form of health care known to mankind. It is also called botanical medicine or herbalism. It started in primitive cultures. Herbal medicine is a supplemental therapy that uses plants or plant extracts to treat illness, and it is effective to keep healthy holistically and naturally. According to The World Health Organization (WHO), there are about 4 billion people, or 80 percent of the world’s population presently use herbal medicine for some aspects of primary health care.

History of Herbals

Nearly every people, including ancient cultures dating back thousands of years, has used herbs. Medicinal herbs were found in the personal effects of an “Ice man” whose body was frozen in the Swiss Alps for more than 5,300 years. They appear to have been used to treat the parasites found in his intestines. In the written record, the study of herbs dates back over 5,000 years to the Sumerians, who described well-established medicinal uses for such plants as laurel, caraway, and thyme. The continuing importance of herbs for the centuries following the Middle Ages is indicated by the hundreds of pages of information on herbs published after the invention of printing in the fifteenth century.

How To Use Herbs

Herbs can be prepared in a variety of forms depending on their purpose. They have been used in all cultures throughout history to restore balance by nourishing the body and have provided humankind with medicine from the earliest beginnings of civilization. Herbs contain a large number of naturally occurring chemicals that have biological activity. They help the body strengthen its own resistance to infective organisms and throw off illness. Herbs can act on the body as powerfully as pharmaceutical drugs and should be treated with the same caution and respect.

Herbs can also have undesirable side effects just as pharmaceutical products can. Herbs may be harmful if taken for the wrong conditions, used in excessive amounts, combined with prescription drugs or alcohol, or used by persons who don’t know what they are doing. Most herbal traditions have accumulated knowledge without modern scientific controls to distinguish between the placebo effect, the body’s natural ability to heal itself, and the actual benefits of the herbs themselves.

Who Can Use Herbs

Medicinal plants can be used by anyone, for example as part of a salad, an herbal tea or supplement. Many of the herbs and spices used by humans to season food yield useful medicinal compounds. To use an herbal product as safely as possible consult your doctor or a trained herbalist before you begin. Do not take a bigger dose than the label recommends. Take it under the guidance of someone trained in and experienced with herbal use. Be especially cautious if you are pregnant or nursing.

While herbal medicine is older than any other type of health care, it continues to influence the medicines of today. Herbal medicine has proven to be a huge benefit to mankind and has never been more popular than it is today.

With upper information, you could understand more about herbal medicine’s uses. Now you can improve your health as you begin to use supplemental herbal medicines sensibly.
